13, February 2015: Hostelling International,
the only global network of Youth Hostel Associations, is delighted to
announce the recent opening of a luxury new hostel in Brighton.
One of the newest members of the renowned Hostelling International network, YHA England and Wales’ latest hostel opened its doors in Brighton on 17 November 2014. Located in the former four star Royal York Hotel on the sea front, YHA Brighton will provide modern, cost-effective centrally located accommodation for the thousands of domestic and overseas visitors to the popular seaside destination.
A spokesperson for Hostelling International says the YHA Brighton boasts 180 beds in 51 en suite rooms, 17 of which are double and ideal for couples and families. YHA Brighton will also offer premium rooms which include king sized beds, luxury en suites with roll top baths and a sea view, offering couples an affordable romantic getaway. There will also be a licensed bar and restaurant on site and free wifi for all guests. Prices for private en suite rooms at YHA Brighton start from only £40.00 and just £14.50 for beds.
Hostelling International say the hostel is an exciting addition to their network, with £4 million having been invested in the historic hotel. It was operated by Max Hotels as a Radisson Blu hotel until earlier this year when YHA purchased the Grade II listed building.
The transformation of the historic hotel to a hostel has ensured the building’s long-term viability in Brighton as well as enhancing the charity’s presence in the South East presence further. Last year YHA (England and Wales) opened the popular YHA South Downs in nearby Southease.
Caroline White, Chief Executive of YHA (England and Wales) said: “YHA Brighton is in a prime location and it is part of our commitment to making sure that we continue to have world class hostels in fantastic locations. We have undertaken a sympathetic refurbishment of the building maintaining its heritage and character; this not only brings it back into use but is an excellent use for such an historic and beautiful building. We expect thousands of young people to experience this Youth Hostel and the City of Brighton every year.”
YHA (England and Wales) is confident that the Youth Hostel’s prime location, coupled with YHA’s reputation for low cost, modern accommodation, will make it hugely popular with both domestic and overseas visitors.
Brighton attracts more than 400,000 overseas visitors each year and is the top seaside resort in the UK for overnight stays. In 2015 Brighton will also host the 2015 Rugby World Cup as well as popular annual Brighton Pride which attract tens of thousands of visitors every August.
The investment in YHA Brighton is part of YHA’s (England and Wales) capital investment plan. Since 2011 YHA has invested £25 million in its network helping put further distance between the outdated public perception of Youth Hostels and the modern reality.
